  • Problem with Path Deformer LITE plug in

I’ve just started using the “Path Deformer LITE” plug in, and I’ve run into some difficulties.

I have no problem working with flat planes (i.e. creating the “flying ribbon” effect), but I cannot seem to get it to deform any shapes with depth (flattened cubes, extruded splines, manually created polygon objects, etc.) The only shape I’ve had success with is a capsule, which works fine.

Do I need the full version of Path Deformer to make this work? Thanks for your help.

Don’t know the direct answer to your question, but I think the simplest approach to the ribbon/growing geometry thing is using a sweep nurbs and animating the growth parameter.

I have path deformer NOT lite…and you have to sub-divide spline so they travel on the path properly. And you might have to use “rail” in the sub-menu of path deformer. If you don’t sub-divide it won’t bend and also try placing a Null object and then placing path deformer and spline as child of that. Or you can download “Quick Pipe” for free through Maxon and try using that as a option. Hope this helps. Study the example that came with Path deformer to see how he sets up his scene. If you need more help ask Renalto (sp?) the guy who made path defomer, he’s very helpful
