problem with DV avi larger than 2GB

I’m working with Premiere CS3, SD PAL footage, captured through firewire and WinDV, as DV avi Type 2. The problem is, when I play the timeline, every single clip that is larger than 2GB has video issues (it stops playing) but the audio is ok. Meantime, all the captured clips are playing smoothly under Windows, don’t care which player I use (MediaPlayer, VLC and so on). If I convert the longer clips to QuickTime movies, and I reimport them in Premiere, everything goes like a charm. Since i don’t want to spend a lot of time for converting, is anybody here who had the same problem and found a way to bypass it? Thanks for all your replies in advance.

Hi Daniel,
First off, are your hard drives formatted as NTFS? FAT32 drives don’t handle files > 2GB.
Also, why capturing with WinDV? I’m not familiar with that software, maybe someone else supplied the files to you, but capturing in Premiere would yield the best results natively.

Thanks for your fast reply. Yes, my hard drives are formatted as NTFS, and i use WinDV because it’s a small piece of software that doesn’t consume many resources.
I’ll try to capture in Premiere directly to see what happens.
