I have a “sky” object onto which I am trying to put an animated texture. I’ve successfully done this before using stock footage straight off my camera (720 x 480 SD), and if I put this same piece as the texture, it works.

This time, though, I’m manufacturing the animation out of After Effects. I’ve tried many different output formats (MPG, AVI, MOV) and resolutions (HD, SD, etc), all with no success. Either nothing renders or 4D reports a texture error.

Thinking it might be something about how After Effects renders, I have tried using Premiere to re-render the footage, again, in many formats. All those rendered from Premiere get a texture error from 4D.

    What am I missing?

OK… Made it work. If anyone is interested, a 720 x 480 render worked, but it wasn’t exactly intuitive what to do.

In After Effects, I had 2 HD videos I comped together for a looping background. The final sequence was 1440 x 1080, which I rendered in just about every way you can think of. Nothing worked.

Since the previous video was a 720 x 480 SD AVI, I decided to create a new comp with those settings. I then dropped the HD comp into it, scaled it down, and rendered it into an AVI.

    It worked. I cannot explain why rendering a 1440 x 1080 comp into 720 x 480 doesn’t work, but a 1440 x 1080 comp dropped into a 720 x 480 then rendered does…. but it works.

So the remaining question is… why doesn’t 4D like HD textures?

I’m not a C4D expert but have you tried unsqueezing 1440 x 1080 to a full 1920 x 1080? Maybe C4D just doesn’t play well when the pixel aspect ratio isn’t square (1440 x 1080 straight from camera usually sets a 1.333 pixel aspect ratio; rectangular pixels basically).
