  • Problem Rotoscoping Footage using a Mask

    I have an AE CS6 masking problem and hope someone can help…

    I am rotoscoping some movie footage (into my project) using a mask. Once I have finished going frame by frame, I find that on occasion, the mask will randomly offset its original intended position by a few pixels. Even after re-adjusting the mask, I find that the mask continues ‘adjust’ and I am wondering if anyone else has ever come across this?

    Other things worth mentioning;

    1. The frame rate of the movie footage and my composition match.
    2. The number of vertices remains constant between frames.

    If you dont resolve the problem, you might want to consider using Mocha AE which comes with AE and rotoscopes extremely well. Do learn to use it from tutorials at the Mocha website before attempting it on your project for best results.

    Make sure you select the Layer while animating the Mask Path and not the Mask itself. If you select the mask and then move any vertex, whole mask will move instead of one vertex.

    Also a screenshot of what you are doing would help.
