May 30, 2007 at 9:42 pmDuplicate the project and then change the name of it. Reopen. Save as the original name after that.

May 30, 2007 at 10:00 pmSave everything. Quit everything.
Shut down. Wait. Wait some more.
Restart.
Trash your FCP preferences, then try again.

May 30, 2007 at 10:22 pmGet info on the project file and make sure your permissions are set to read and write.
What kind of drives do you have? What else is connected to your system? Try unhooking the drive and then open your project. If it opens hit cancel and quit (without saving).

May 30, 2007 at 11:13 pm[sesammedia] “or maybe a corupt file in the project?
“That’s what I’m thinking.
Get info on your drive (Apple-I) and then change the permission (at the very bottom of the info window) to ignore ownership on the drive and then click the apply to enclosed items. Then try reopening.
Sorry for all the steps, I just like to be thorough in these situations as it could be a multitude of things. The good news, it seems your project is in tact and nothing is missing. You might have to dig for some weird file somewhere, but all is not lost.
Post back when you’re done with the permission thing.
If it doesn’t work, I’d try rehooking files a little at time and see which one gives you trouble.

May 30, 2007 at 11:31 pmIgnore ownership should be checked and then click the apply to enclosed items button.
If that doesn’t work, you have a bit of work ahead of you. You should duplicate your project (again), tell FCP to NOT reconnect and then start reconnecting media 5-10 clips at a time. If you are highly organized in terms of bins, you could try connecting bins at a time and in between each reconnect, save and quit. Then reopen your project and the first few clips should now be connected. Then connect the next 5 clips or so (or the next bin) and save then quit. Once you can’t open the project anymore, you might get a sense of which clip(s) are corrupt. Track them down on your hard drive and fix them at that point.
Post back with results.
