  • Problem Importing MOV file into Vegas 10.0 Pro 64 bit

Posted by Steve Hardeman on April 6, 2011 at 9:32 pm

    I am running Vegas Pro 10.0c (Build 470) 64bit on Windows 7 64 bit.

I was given some raw footage in .mov that had been encoded in Final Cut Pro.

When I import the video I am able to see, hear and edit the audio but Vegas will not recognize the video. From another post on here I saw that running the video thru GSpot may give me some information. I did that.

    For Audio Codec, I get:
    Codec: sowt: 16-bit signed little-endian
    Info: 48000Hz
    Status Undetermined.

    For Video CODEC, I get:
    Codec:xdv6
    Name: Unknown
    Status: Codec Status Undetermined

Unfortunately, I’m not sure what all of that is telling me. 🙁

Soooooo, I also saw, in another post, that I could try converting the source file using Mpeg Streamclip(I have 1.2.1b2). I tried that but it only converted the audio. Again, no video. In fact, even in the “preview display” window, it will only do audio. No go on the video.

I just want to import the file into Vegas, edit and encode.

    Help?

Can you play the video in the QuickTime Player? If not, you will never get it to import into Vegas because Vegas uses QuickTime to process .MOV files.

If you can opened the file in QuickTime player, use the Inspector (Ctrl+I) to see what the codec is. It may be a codec that Vegas doesn’t support for QuickTime in which case you will never open the file in Vegas.

Ask the FCP editor to export the file as Photo – JPEG or Avid DnxHD so that it can be correctly read on a PC.
