Problem importing .avi files as video
I’m completely new to video editing, so I apologize if the answer to this is head-slappingly obvious, but for some reason I can’t import .avi files generated from my Casio EX-Z750 camera as video. Vegas will allow them to do dropped into audio tracks in the timeline, but it won’t let them be dropped into video tracks. Interestingly, other .avi files don’t have this problem — a TV show I downloaded in this format was successfully imported as video. Any advice?

Since this is a digital still camera, odds are that you need an MJPEG codec.
Main Concept has one for $19 and Morgan Multimedia has one for $20.
Demo versions are available for both. -
I too have a Casio Exilm EX-Z850 and have this problem with only the audio track importing. I have the Main Concept mpg codec/filter installed, but this doesnt help. I have tried Digital Media Converter 2.3 which I used to convert the avi camera file to a mpg. While this new file imported with sound and video into Vegas, the video was stretched to letterbox shape. Not a perfect solution. The Casio avi file plays perfectly on Realplayer, VLC Media Player and Windows media player. Going back to the original problem, has anyone a better solution for this.
