Newbie question: Attempting to edit HDV for first time on Mac Pro 2009/FCP 7 through firewire to Panasonic PVDV401 camcorder s-video to JVC TM-H150C external monitor. New mac, new software install. I’ve tried all the usual suggestions from this forum and other forums- checked that it was set to all frames, mirrored playback, camera on off, restarted FCP, removed other firewire devices, etc. as well as trashing preferences. Result is still: only a still image from the current video in canvas refreshes on ext. monitor only when I stop playback. I cannot get moving images to play, though video plays fine within FCP viewer and canvas. Any other suggestions?

HDV does NOT monitor via firewire because of the GOP structure of the format.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

Shane Ross, who often offers a list of remedies for this problem on this forum (that I’ve already tried), says HDV can be monitored from FCP as SD on an external monitor. See thread below.

    Any other suggestions?
