  • Problem Downloading Pro App Updates from Apple’s Web Site…

    Hi,

I and several other people (who posted to the macintouch.com site) are having trouble getting Apple’s download page to accept our “crossgraded” FCS 5.0 serial numbers for access to the FCP 5.1.2 update, etc.

After entering a FCS 5.0 serial number (for a valid FCS 5.1 crossgrade) on

    https://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/download/

the page responds with “You appear to have already downloaded the Final Cut Studio update.”

According to the one-page document included with my crossgrade from FCS 5.0 to 5.1, it states to “use your original Final Cut Studio [5.0] serial number if you are required to enter a serial number during installation.” My new installer disc included with FCS 5.1 worked fine when I moved to FCS 5.1, but it appears that the database accessed by the Apple Pro Apps pages on their site hasn’t been updated to reflect the crossgrades.

As added info, I was able to access and download the updates using a FCS 5.1 retail serial number. I returned to the Apple site some time later and was able to access the updates once again with the FCS 5.1 retail serial number (suggesting that the “error message” I received when using my crossgraded FCS 5.0 serial number is misleading, at the very least).

Anyone else experience this? Any thoughts? Anyone know how to contact Apple and have them look into this? Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Dave

They’ve obviously become very anal about downloading updates, which is their right (though, I don’t think it does a bit of good) but I had no problem downloading the update once.

You should just run software update and install. But you have to choose the install option, you can’t download and install the package. It won’t work.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I was able to download the updates using my serial number for a retail version of FCS 5.1 (no upgrade/crossgrade involved). I just checked again, and the page gives me the error message… so, it seems you get one shot at the downloads.

    !!!!!!!
The existing issue, however, is that my crossgraded FCS 5.0 serial number won’t take, at all… no chances for download… so, there does seem to be a problem with Apple.
    !!!!!!!

FYI, the updates did show up in Software Update. It is sometimes easier to keep a set up updates available in case I need to re-install FCS away from any Internet connection (or to avoid “needing” to be connected to the Internet). People with multiple copies of FCS, like me, may also find it wasteful to download the updates on each machine, rather than just once.

I still would like to know why my “crossgraded” FCS 5.0 serial number works with the Install Disc but not with the FCS download page.
