problem connecting camcorder

I’m ashamed to admit that the solution was to leave the camcorder plugged in for longer than the usual 10 seconds 🙂
I finally had a chance to try it again yesterday.
I plugged in and waited and waited and waited and …
After at least a minute, the “New device found. What do you want to do?” dialog box popped up and I was back in business.
The strange thing is that on any other computer, that same box popped up in less than 10 seconds.
Oh well, I now know that I have to be more patient than I normally am.
