  • Problem applying tracking data to 3d layer??

    hi,

I am having problems applying tracking data to a 3d text layer so that it will sit on top of a hill.

I tracked my footage which is a pan across some hills and applied the data to a null object. i then created a text layer and made it 3d, positioned it on top of the hill then parented it to the null object. For some reason it wont work.

If i turn off the text layers 3d the track will work perfectly but the text is not in position. When i turn the layer back to 3d it wont track properly. Why is this, and how can i solve this problem?

    Thankyou.

Tracking data is basically a 2 dimensions data. X & Y are anyway the only axis to be used on the flat 2D moving picture you’re tracking.

Your problem comes from the Z axis : the depth. Try to visualize your tracking path. It moves flat in the XY plane. Now, you attach this path to a 3D null, and push the null far away on the Z axis : Your tracking path is now also far away, and smaller than before, because of the fied of view (or perspective). It’s not related anymore with the path you’ve computed before, as the whole path has now moved in the distance, while the footage you’ve extracted tracking path from didn’t move accordingly.

To be simple, attaching a 3D layer to a tracking path only works if Zposition=0. You can still use 3D rotations, but not the Zposition. Try using scale parameter, as a Zpos alternative, since Zpos is essentially a scale factor.

    Hope it helps
