I’m taking footage from a Canon camera (avi) and want to turn it into dv for FCP6 editing. Using Compressor 3’s DV NTSC preset the results were very soft. Next I went to FCP Media Manager’s Recompress feature and got this warning “Frame Rate Conflict – the frame rate of the preset chosen for recompression differs from items in your selection. The preset frame rate will be ignored and the original frame rate of the items in your selection will be returned.”

I’m guessing the problem is that the Canon footage is 30fps and FCP is set to the more standard 29.97 but why am I stuck with one choice – that is sticking with the original 30fps when the name of the game is to take a mixed bag of footage and make it FCP friendly?

(Just out of curiosity where would one change the “preset chosen for recompression”? Is that simply a mirror of the current Sequence’s Settings?)

    Thanks,

    Paul

    DV always looks soft.

If you are iewing in QT.. it will look softer due to the flag setting for DV

Why don’t you use something higher quality? At bare minimum DV 50

I came up with a work-around using MPEG-Streamclip (export as max quality dv Qt) that looks ok but would like to get my head around Media Manager’s Recompress functionality.
