    Hello,
I have an emergency need to build a 4 or 8-core Mac Pro system for editing a feature film on Quicktime ProRez and outputting to DVD’s and to a high quality HD format for projection in theaters. The ProRez files will originate as Quicktime conversions from RED 4k HD files, in a data conversion process, rather than in a capture process.
I was told that only an 8-core would yield satisfactory results for this, as opposed to a quad-core, which I can get more easily and more cheaply. Could anyone with experience on this subject comment?
Also, is there a minimum amount of RAM needed to do this, or a minimum level of video card needed either for viewing two large monitors or for outputting an HD signal to an outboard recorder?

    thanks,
    Bruce S
