Pro Res Sync Issue
Everything I am capturing is 6 frames out of sync when I look it over in FCP. I am capturing as Apple ProRes, 1920X1080 HDTV (16:9),
The quicktime video settings are
Digitizer-Blackmagic HDTV 1080
Input-Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 29.97Hz 8Bit
Compresser-ProRes 422
FPS-29.97
Audio settings are 48.000kHz 24-Bit 16ChannelThe footage was shot on a Canon XLH1 as 60i footage on HDV tape. Changed the capture setting as 59.94 but all the footage captured seemed to be ‘fast forward’ so i had to recapture as 29.97 (which when played back is 6frames off) Is this an issue with the camera or how I am capturing the footage? It seems like I am capturing as Canon’s 24f, leaving the sync off, but either capturing as 24f, 30i, or 60i, the audio sync is off. Any Ideas?

60i = 29.97 fps. DOn’t use 59.94 as that’s 59.94 fps, as in frames per second. 60i is fields per second. It is most commonly known as 29.97 fps (60 fields per second is the same as 29.97 frames per second).
Recapture with the 1080i setting.

I’ve been using the 1080i setting, 29.97 to capture, and the sequence setup is also 29.97 But all my footage seems to be 6 frames off when played back in the timeline. I fix the audio, edit, print to tape, audio is in sync. But when the show goes to air after the networks get it and close caption/redub, the audio fluctuates in and out of sync throughout the whole show. Figure its the networks, but this doesn’t happen with any other shows on that same network.

If it’s in sync when it leaves your desk, then it’s the network’s fault.

I am having same sync problem Shooting HDV with Sony V1U editing with FCS3 on a quad core power mac and everything is 6 frames out. I fooled around with settings, no luck. Did you ever find solution.

Change the default setting of 4 to 0 as in the picture below.

Hello,
I have a Power Mac Pro 1.1 (early 2009) running FCS3. Capturing Sony HDV as Pro Res in FCP 7. Trying to figure out external monitor (low end LCD with VGA and HDMI inputs). As I am working with Pro Res can I get away with a simple video card? Currently I am using a Canopus box (analog to digital) Firewire out of Mac SVHS to monitor. I know I can do better.

If clips were already shot as 29.97 fps and 59.94 fps, can anything be done to get the clips back into sync? At the end of the project. Desperate.
