  • Pro Apps update or QT 7.2 – somethings is seriously amiss

Posted by David Roth weiss on August 2, 2007 at 8:09 pm

Suddenly after installing both QT and Pro Apps updates there is no such thing as sync, at least on the HD ProRes 422 (HQ) timeline I’m cutting. Everytime I hit play its a different scenario, and never he same twice in a row, sync may be out a few frames one time, as mych as 20-seconds the next. Really a cool feature if you like intermittent behavior on the timeline.

Does anyone have a clue which update is the big problem, or if this is a Kona issue (LH here) or just a general FCP issue?

    TIA,
    David

I’ve heard strange things about 7.2.

Have you tried the ole uninstall and reinstall the drivers?

I am just now completing a setup of a new MacPro and I make specifically sure not to update to 7.2. Reverting to 7.1.6 is a problem and requires many steps.

    Jeremy,

Only the second time in my life I didn’t take my own advice and spend the 45-minutes to do a clone before an update, and the second time I’m completely screwed, or so I fear. I’ve written the kind folks at Apple suggesting they offer an elegant way to shift back in time, but I fear I am hosed until a workable solution is made public.

David, I take no credit for this (nor any blame if it screws your computer up worse) but I found this way to revert to QT 7.1.6:

If you are otherwise going to have to do a full reinstall anyway, this might save you some steps. Again, proceed at your own risk!

    I’m running FC Studio 2 on a G5, OS X 10.4.10.
After installing Pro Application Support 4.0.1 the following problems:

    Aperture won’t launch
    Qmaster won’t launch
    Batch Monitor won’t launch
    …that’s as far as I went…

Eventually replacing ./System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework with my backup version cured the problem.

Scary stuff Matt. I can see why you don’t want to be held accountable. I think I’m gonna wait patiently for a fix from Apple and then just jump off a bridge if my business goes down the tubes in the interim.

Yep JR, I saw that when researching the Pro Apps update issues. Certainly tends to destroy one’s high degree of confidence in the programmers I’ll bet? Be sure to tell the folks at Apple that the next time you really want your editing system messed-up you’ll ask for it. These automatic screw-ups are the pits.

I realize that now everyone seems happy with the Pro Apps fix, no one will
bother to try this to verify another issue with QT 7.2 and Compressor 3.0.1
but I’m throwing it out here.
(this problem has been noted in Apple’s Compressor forum)

    https://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5050240

I have submliited a bug report to Apple on July 14th.

When using Compressor 3.0.1 to resample a 44.1 kHz 16 bit file (either mp3 or AIFF) to 48kHz or 96kHz 16 bit AIFF, the resulting file length is truncated.
No pitch change, just shorter by many seconds.
