    hey gang,

    3 things…

1 – i couldn’t find in any previous discussions how to export a text file of sequence markers and their information. is it possible??? please say its possible.

2 – has anyone had success in exporting an xml or an automatic duck converted xml to avid file into a flame?

3 – i was going to ask if anyone had noticed in version 6 that you could check “drop frame” as an option in a 23.98 sequence but it did nothing to the sequence. the fine folks at apple seem to have “fixed” that for version 6.0.1… and here i thought we could actually cut drop frame 23.98. damn. i have been mastering in 23.98 HDCam for years now and i need to know – why can’t 23.98 be in drop frame?

    thanks,
    ken

As for the first question, it should be possible and not as hard as it sounds. I built a suite of converters for Jaleo->FCP project conversions a few years ago. Obvioously, Discreet uses a completely different structure than Jaleo’s so they won’t work for you, but it should be an indication that it’s possible- especially if you’re talking about export/import of simple data like markers or cuts-only edits. I discovered that converting more complex stuff simply won’t work since the systems think in such different ways. All you need is a Perl or PHP tutorial on crunching text and you should be sound as a pound. Start with a simple XML file at first and then work from there.

I may be wrong (I’m PAL) but I don’t thing such a thing exist: 23’98 drop or Non-drop.
You can talk about drop-non drop when talking about STMP time code (non-drop is 30 fps and drop 29’98), but 23’98 is just 23’98, so there is not need to offer an option that do not exist. Same if would offer me drop/non-dro frame in PAL.
    Sorry if I’m wrong.

theres a commercial solution for listing and printing markers available, called FinalPrint, from Digital Heaven … especially nice as it also shows thumbnails

an alternative is to use the free readxml from Spherico which will get you there and much more besides, albeit without thumbnails

thanks so much for the reply andy!!

i’ve been waiting and hoping someone would come up with a solution. i’m cutting a series in 23.98 and i was going to use automatic duck but it doesn’t support 23.98. who knew?

we’re going to have to go back to edl’s with list info so that’s what we’ll do. it sucks but it’s a workaround.

i sometimes find on cc that any questions dealing with feature films and/or 23.98 are sometimes just ignored on this forum.

    thanks again,
    ken
