  • Previewing on an external monitor?

I want to be able to preview on an external monitor in Vegas5 and DVDA2. I have been using both programs for a while on just the one monitor.

From Douglas’ book I understand what I would need if I wanted to hook up a regular TV monitor. But, can I use a widescreen LCD monitor that doesn’t have RCA jacks? This LCD monitor just has a VGA cable. If I can hook this up is it defeating the purpose of using a second monitor as far as color correction and all that fun stuff.

I will be viewing the final project on a LCD HD TV, but of course the video isn’t HD.

You can use a computer monitor as a secondary monitor; simply connect it as such and divide Vegas to each monitor. Docking windows make this easy.
However, you’ll find yourself scaling the preview in the second monitor. Vegas 6, and especially Vegas 7 are optimized for dual screen systems.
Don’t forget to calibrate that LCD monitor if you’re using it for C/C.
