    Hi

I have just upgraded my system with a decklink HD extreme video card. My monitor is a Dell 2709w 27″ (1920×1200) but in TV mode the resolution options in preferences change to 1920 x 1080.

Using the monitor as a computer monitor rather than video has no problems what so ever.

When I create a composition in after effects at 1920 x 1080 and use the monitor as a video preview monitor the picture quality isnt great at all.

In after effects im using the black magic video output option and HDTV 30 hz frame size 1920×1080

Has any one had experience at this? I would expect the picture to be much better.

One possible reason that I have thought of is that the monitor is 1920 x 1200 and therefore when previewing 1920 x 1080 the picture is being stretched slightly with a resulting adverse affect to the preview picture quality.

Can any one help me please?

what is the best comp preset and preview preset to use and will this improve the picture quality?

    Thanks Neil

You are right about the resolution of the monitor. It is not true HD and also keep in mind that it is a computer monitor, not an HD TV set. Your graphics are probably fine, but to view 1080 best use a true 1080 HD set, not a computer monitor.
