Hello, On some of my Vegas(7) files when I render a short loop region to avi the render does not show up in the preview window and on other files the render does show up in the preview window. It seems to take longer to render when it shows up in the preview window. I think I really would like it without the preview, thus saving time. How do I turn this off or on? Any help is much appreciated.

    Happy Sunday

    Thanks
    Dave P.

During the times the preview does not show up, it’s not having to do anything except COPY the file. When the frames must be rendered (i.e. you haven’t added an effect or transition or you’re using a format that won’t “smart render”) the preview frame will be updated every 5th frame.

So, yes…, it WILL appear to “render faster” when the preview isn’t being updated because IT DOESN’T HAVE TO RENDER.

    Thanks for your time Edward,
Let’s see if I understand. If no effects, etc. have been applied to the video clip on the timeline, NO rendering is taking place. When effects, etc. are being applied it shows up in the preview window and the rendering takes longer because of the proccesing time needed to render the clips to avi or whatever.
Why does it not show up in the preview window if no rendering is actually taking place?

    Thanks

Because it’s simply copying the file and isn’t decoding/reencoding each frame. I suppose it could slow down and display the frames for you but it would be a waste of time.

My 20-minute project on Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro Pack is currently rendering with 5 hours remaining yet there has not been any video in the preview window for the last hour. This thread is the closest I’ve seen to same issue. Can someone please advise if my video is actually rendering, or am I wasting the next 5 hours of my time?

My audio is still muted for some reason during preview although I can see the waveforms on the mixer, but I thought I’d render video using DVD NTSC video stream using MainConcept MPEG-2 with .m2v format.

    Thanks for any tips!
