  • Preview playback video is freezing but audio continues?

I am playing back video and the video freezes and then jumps a couple of frames. Then play it back again and it does the same thing in a different area, so I know the footage is ok. I have a quadro 4000 8GB ram and my processor is barley moving – any idea where the hang up is – am playing back at 1/2 frame rate. footage is 1920×1080 MP4 – just pre-viewing no effects just viewing.
    never notice this before?

Do you have “Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback” unchecked?

I just noticed something else – may be unrelated – My ram usage was up at about 7GB and processors were 100 % . After I tried to view the file rendered my RAM usage with nothing running stayed at 7GB use untill I shut down vegas and then start it up again.

But the skiiping is bad – now one thing I have done was installed adobe CS5.5 could that have caused a conflict?

The Raptor is a pretty good drive – I have a few of them here, so unless it’s almost full or very fragged, it shouldn’t be the problem.

Your RAM preview depends on how much you use CTRL-B (or a looping section) to preview segments of your work. Some people set it to zero to give Vegas all the RAM it needs.

If your CPU is at or near 100%, then your processor is not fast enough.
If you are using most of your RAM for the process, I wouldn’t panic, but you have little reserve.

It doesn’t really matter much what you have installed, what are you running? Even if Vegas is the only application running, you still have dozens of processes running.

One of the biggest performance killers is to have your video assets on the same physical drive as the O/S and Vegas programs. (I.E. drive C:).

Firefox is also a huge resource hog. Mostly RAM and GDI objects. (Don’t worry about GDI objects unless you are putting thousands of still-images on the timeline).

    Hope this helps.
