  • preview only on external device?

Posted by Laszlo Kovacs on July 19, 2007 at 3:46 am

    Hi,

How do I set up Vegas (6) for previewing ONLY on external device?
(I’d love to free some screen space).

    TIA

Set up the device: options>Preferences>Preview Device> Device pulled down option: OCHI Compliant IEEE 1394.

Click on the TV icon or alt+shift+4.

The signal will output via firewire. To see the singal on an analog monitor, you will need to run it through a converter, like the Canopus ADVC-100 or a video camera that will convert the signal out of the composite or svideo jack.

Additionally be aware that with your preview window set to Preview/Auto may mean you’ve got low resolution frames going out to your ext monitor, depending on the size of your Preview Window.
If you need to work at a reasonable quality (you’ll especially notice the quality loss on titles/gen media) then be sure to work at least in Preview/Full. You might take a hit on framerate, depending on the CPU.

    Thanks guys!

    I have an AV link.

Seems I did it right, however I miss something.
I did the way you described, Mark.
It’s OK, but if I close the preview window, the signal gets away from the output. Seems I must have the preview window open.

If the preview window is closed, and I hit the shift-alt-4 I get this:

    Nice, eh? 😉
This is why I asked how to preview on external only.

    Thanks anyway.

What if you don’t close it and instead just undock it from the right and dock it with all the windows on the left. Then it’s still open, just hidden behind the other tabs.
