When I view my work on the timeline by hitting play, the preview I get (in Vegas 5) is not smooth and is kind of jumpy especially on the transitions. When I render everything is fine. Is this normal or is there something I can do to make the preview look better.

    Thanks

What preview mode are you using? The default is Preview (Auto). Different modes require different levels of CPU power. Also, different levels of effects require more CPU power. So it’s dependent on the project and the power of your computer.

I had been running with the preview set at Best (auto). I did some tinkering this past weekend and found out that going to one of the other previews (like “Preview Auto’) did in fact help.

    Thanks for your input.

Preview (Auto) is the default and where I leave mine 99% of the time. It’s a good combination between quality and speed for previewing purposes. If I need better quality, I’ll ram render or render to a new track or pre-render that section.
