    I have read the many posts on this subject, but none with my problem…

    here are my specs:
    Final Cut 5.0.4
    Mac OSX 10.4.11
    Sony HVR-M15U deck
    DV NTSC 48 khz
    Firewire NTSC
    Digital Cinema desktop preview

    I have used the DV cam tapes and no problem capturing. However the mini dv tape does not work.
    I can hear audio, but I see color bars and preview disabled. Same thing on imovieHD.

    I have restarted, unplugged the deck, still doesn’t work…

    any suggestions?

    You need to turn that deck so the 1394 mode or the ilink mode or whatever it’s called on there is in DV mode and not HDV mode. Sorry, I don’t have the exact menu as I haven’t used that deck before, but I’d bet that it will solve your problem.

    I did that as well, in the HDV/DV sub menu it was on auto, and I changed it to DV…still only audio, and no video….

    It worked! I changed it to DV on the in/out rec AND the i.link set section….THANKYOU 🙂
