Prepping multi language workflow
Hi there,
I’m prepping for the edit of a multi language documentairy series with a tight deadline. It will be in Turkish and Dutch. I am a dutch native and don’t speak Turkish. I am trying to figure out what the best workflow is and I hope to find some advice here.
The turkish bits need to be (roughly) translated and the director will need to make a roughcut based on the transcripts(paper edit) to save time. These transcripts need to relate to the clips and timecode so I can recreate her idea’s on a timeline.
We have 30 card’s(reels) of roughly an hour each. I’m thinking to create timelines for each card and have them translated. Import an .srt and start working on new timelines (probably character based) from there. The problem here is I have a layer of subtitles and can’t match frame to source material and have subs.
I have little experience in working with foreign language material and would like to oversee the problems I can run into. Is this the right approach? Should I have clip based transcripts? Subs burnt into my proxies?
Hope you can help.Kind regards,
Rowdy
