    HI everyone,

Thanks ahead of time. I have an independent film which languished with a distributor for 4 years and which we finally stowed away the capital and bought back to release ourselves. It was shot back in DV Land on a DVX100 (a camera I still love) and cut on 4.5, and now we are back in the system preparing it for a “new” final master. Some initial issues: the titles now look super-shoddy on an HD screen. The image doesn’t look so hot either. I assume most will be viewing the film on an HD set or a computer. So…

    1. Is there a preferred QT compressor setting for the sequence that might improve image and titles?

    2. Is it worth the expense to upres to 720p and what would that look like?

    3. Should I remove titles and rework them?

    4. Any other suggestions? Yes, sorry, I’m fishing…

Feel free to contact me off-forum if need be. I am not an expert on mastering and prepping files, and since we are doing this low-budget I, thus, have taken on this role…

    Thanks again.
    Kevin

[Kevin Kerwin] “3. Should I remove titles and rework them? “

This usually the case. Take the final footage out to a place that has a Teranex for professional upconvert, then redo all the titles/graphics in HD at a matching resolution.
