  • Premiere workflow for RED Anamorphic Footage combined with HD stock footage.

I’m a casual Premiere Pro user. I’m cutting a horror movie trailer together for a movie. I shot on the RED with an anamorphic lens. But I have HD stock footage (not anamorphic) I’m also using with it. How best do I combine these 2 formats? Do I use an HD sequence setting going in? If not, what size sequence settings do I use so the HD doesn’t denigrate too bad?

Also, does the anamorphic footage squeeze automatically when I bring it into Premiere?

    A major thanks in advance!!

You should be able to select “custom” as far as sequence settings , Pick what you want the resolution and framerate to be , and it’ll make that the sequence. Usually a movie trailer would be 24fps just like a movie would be (or 23.97fps). When you drop in the anamorphic footage you can simply go to the effect controls / motion / and uncheck the “uniform scale” box and make the footage any size or aspect ratio you want

Import the footage and drop it on the sequence icon in the project/bin.

It should inherit the actual format of your Anamorphic clip.

As far as external sources, the world is your oyster 🙂

You will need to blank what you want or don’t want on the HD clip.

Sadly your end product will be decent in HD but not to the native Anamorphic format it was shot In.

Question, which lens did you use?

    I own a Scarlet and 6K Dragon.

Been wanting to get an Anamorphic lens 🙂

My DP rented it. I didn’t ask him. But it’s a wonderful piece of glass. I may try to make the HD clips a fake Anamorphic – found a tutorial for that. So the sequence will be RED size frame and I then enlarge the HD clips to fill that larger format? Boy, I bet they really take a hit. Is that what you’re recommending?

Sorry, that’s not what I’m recommending to you.

That’s more my workflow dealing with the type of projects I work on.

We shoot with the highest resolution in mind but would need to agree on the final output.

I did an assembly two years ago with 7K/8K RED footage but had to have two final versions.

One for VFX (2K) the other 4K DCI.

    It was a nightmare.

Pick your final target and make sure you future-proof your project.

I always save a native res version of the assembly.
