    This is an old post.

Have you tried to search for similar problems you are experiencing? Someone else out there with CS4 has most likely had this problem and found a solution. CS4 has been around for a long time now.

If you can’t find a solution, then start a new post with the details of your problem, version of the software you are using and specs of your system.

    Cheers,

    Jon Barrie 🙂

As for video stuck on one frame while audio continues playing. Sounds like you are trying to deal with an old avi codec that CS4 doesn’t recognise.

I had this before when someone handed me some footage to edit. They had exported as .avi but from a camera that was an ancient relic !

Turns out I needed the mjpg decompressor. You may need a different one depending on what camera the footage came from. I discovered which one I needed by dropping the problem clip into AE project panel then tried to play it directly in the project panel (don’t play it from a composition as it will play fine in comp windows). When playing in project panel it came up with :
    “can’t find vids:mjpg decompressor”

here’s a link to the mjpg decompressor if you need it

    https://smart.pannoninteraktiv.hu/video/codec/mcjpg30.zip

after installing (by following readme notes in the zip)close Prem cs4 then reopen the project so it can recognise the missing Codec….Voila ! fixed.

    This worked for me:

Remove the Aggregate Devices plist file.
1.Open the Finder and navigate to /YOUR_HD/Library/Preferences.
2.Rename the com.apple.audio.AggregateDevices.plist file, or move it to the trash.
    3. Restart Soundbooth or Adobe Premiere Pro and retry.

I didn’t even have to restart, but if you have the same issue I did (which sounds like you did) hopefully this will work.

For others searching for a solution…

I was having the same problem. Timeline stopped playing. Viewer still acted normal, other sequences played fine. just one sequence would not play. All of my clips were multicam – one stereo track of audio in their preferences. One track soloed in the sequence view of the clips One of the clips in the sequence I opened in sequence view and enabled another track (I wanted to hear that mic for that moment).

The issue didn’t start at first. But I have tracked it back to that. If I mute the track I enabled in the subclip the sequence the clip is used in will play again. Must be some audio down mix bug.

Had this problem earlier today. I’m editing with content off a hard drive. I closed down my anti-virus software and the timeline plays with no issue now.

May have just lucked out, but as soon as I did this I noticed the problem was rectified.

I use 360 Total Security, which at times can be a little invasive with some tasks. Hope this helps.
