Premiere – RED Footage – EDL issue
Hey guys,
I have a short film project that was shot in RED. The editing is done and its going to the colorist who is using Resolve. During editing we renamed the files in the Premiere session with the scene and take nos. The original RED files are untouched with their original folder structure. Now, when I export the edl for my colorist some of the clips in the edl are referring to the clip names in the session rather than to the original RED footage name. Others are referring to their original RED name. And those clips are fine when he assembles it in Resolve. I have asked adobe support about this but they are not of being great help. Any ideas? Export a Final Cut XML file to import into Resolve. If your timeline is EDL ready (single track of video) then an XML file should work just as fine in Resolve.
The advantage is that the XML exports with a clip’s tape name (also known as reel name) which Resolve will use to match a clip from its media pool. Premiere’s EDL only exports clip name and that is why it is failing.

Thanks Angelo for your reply. But I have two tracks of video. So I actually exported 2 edls,separate for each track. Is that a similar case for the final cut xml too?

It may do multiple video tracks but there is one issue I’ve come across multiple times with XML in Resolve: If you have multiple cuts of the same video clip, Resolve may only link one of the cuts and refuse to link the others. You may need to rebuild parts of your edit within Resolve.
Alternately, in Premiere you may find that renaming the files in your bins will not change what they’re named in the timeline which is what the EDL uses.
