Premiere Pro encoding with H.264 discards final frames with now video (cutting remaining audio)
Hi guys. I’m going nuts trying to get this to work. [I’m gonna export as Apple Pro Res 422 and then transcode to H.264 to get the job done for tonight, but this is really bugging me and I need help.]
So I have a 1:38 piece where the last four seconds have no video left, just the trailing audio that extends to 1:38. If I export as a .mov with H.264, those four seconds are chopped off, cutting the audio. I’ve tried putting in a blank .png, a black .png, black video, and nothing. If I put in another picture or footage, it will export that no problem. And if I export as Apple Pro Res 422 it will export no problem, carrying the audio without any frames containing video information.
I don’t think I’ve ever encountered this and tried restarting to no avail. I also recently reinstalled all of the master collection, so it’s a fresh new install. Has anybody else encountered this issue? It’s really annoying me. ;( Appreciate any help I can get. =)

Hi Oliver,
Since you said the export works if you put some VIDEO at the end, how about placing video, but then put black on the track above? Or use VIDEO, with tranparency adjusted to make it invisible (black)?
Just gotta outsmart these programs sometimes when they misbehave
Also a good idea to add a few seconds of black beyond end of audio.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve tried all of that. Premiere’s black video is essentially that, black video, and no dice. I can’t remember if I tried putting actual video on a track below with the black video on top, I’ll try that later since the client has asked for some changes anyway. I’ll post back to see if that tricked it or not!

No go for trying to put black video on top of a normal video clip. I even tried copying that small part into a brand new file and comp, and still nothing. For the time being I’ll just export as Pro Res 422 then transcode down to what I want but it’s still rather annoying! ;(

Have you checked where your work area ends?

Yeah, I’ve tried all of that (work area, specific area, all). I wrote that with Apple Pro Res it encodes fine, which would suggest that all things being equal (including what area I choose to encode), the only difference between the frames being chopped off at the end is the codec used. And H.264 is pretty much your workhorse for most online or compressed video these days.
