  • Premiere Pro CS6 HDV Capture crashes when playback engaged

    Hi,

I am all of a sudden having trouble with capturing HDV material in PP on Mac. As soon as the play button is engaged in the capture window, Premiere pro crashes, and actually requires a force quit action.

This all used to work before the latest CS6 update, but I can’t definitely link the two events. Has anyone else had this issue?

I can control the device and capture perfectly from iMovie, FCP 7.0.3 etc, it’s just Premiere Pro.

    Hi Declan,

Are you running Premiere Pro 6.0.5? There have been some reports of Premiere crashing when capturing with some (not all) HDV camera.

You may want to revert back to 6.0.4.

    Sorry for your troubles.

    Hi Peter,

It is indeed 6.0.5. How do I revert it back to 6.0.4 ? Incidentally, the camera is Canon XLH1

    Thanks

I have found the link on the Adobe site, I’ll update with progress when reverted.

Uninstall CS6. Reinstall install and use this update to 6.0.4. Don’t update to 6.0.5 😉

Ok, I have gone through this and 6.0.4 still crashed, although did allow me to stop the tape deck and close the capture window. On going through the uninstall / reinstall and then upgrading to 6.0.2, things seem to be stable, so for now, am sticking to 6.0.2

I literally just updated cs6 and now I’m having the exact same problem. Unbelievable. Every time I update cs 6 I have to reinstall it and start over. Makes me sick.

Have you heard of a fix for this yet for the latest version? Please advise if you have. I feel your pain.

I haven’t heard of an official fix yet so for now I am sticking to 6.0.2. However I have noticed this version seems to crash more on exit. It can’t be a big fix and I would have thought that a company like Adobe would have adopted an agile development strategy by now and could just rattle out this bug fix that they introduced.

    Hi Declan,

Sorry to resurrect this old thread (while the world moved on to Adobe CC), but I was wondering if you found a trick to capture HDV tape on Premiere Pro 6.5

It might be time, to update to CC in the end. Just curious.

    Thanks a lot!
