Premiere Pro CS6 crashes
Hi,
I just purchased CS6 (have used CS5 for 2 years before without any problems, still installed, but not open at the same time). Installed the suite this morning and have not been able to work in it at all, the screen turns black and the computer reboots without an error message.These crashes happened at various stages, rendering a 10 min sequence, inserting clips into the timeline, opening a project….
I have eliminated corrupted media as an issue, the same crash occurs in a new project by simply adding a new still title containing only the word “test”.I have uninstalled iTunes, have no 3rd party plug-ins. I do have Protools 8 installed, but not currently running, no other applications are open besides Premiere Pro.
Here are my hardware specs:
Dell XPS Studio 8100, I7 quad core, 8GB RAM, 1.5TB hard drive with plenty of space, PNY GEFORCE GTX 660 (video card added to supported card .txt file, latest driver downloaded). Power supply has upgraded to meet the needs of the graphics card.
Any help trouble shooting is greatly appreciated…I have spent hours on this already, trying to identify the cause…

Try to test your RAM with memtest and try turning the Freddie Mercury Playback to software.

Trash your preferences, clear your cache, run any updates necessary for all Adobe product and consider getting some more RAM if you can.

Problem solved! Decided to follow your advice and install more RAM. When opening the computer, discovered newly installed video card was not seated properly. Took it out and put it back in.
Turned out, the new RAM had a faulty processor, so I sent my husband back to the store to return it. While he was out, I tested Premiere Pro as well as After Effects and it ran like a charm, even without the additional RAM!
Hubby came home with new (non-faulty) RAM and as a special surprise, brought home an SSD drive…
Even though my problem was technically solved by re-seating the video card, you gave some great advice, now I have more RAM and the additional SSD drive….Thanks 😉
