Premiere Pro CS4 video output quality issues
I am trying to make some changes to a DV format file, and output as the same DV format. When the video is brought into Premiere, it looks crisp in the left-hand video box. But, when playing it on the right window and when encoding it, it comes out as a mess with substantial compression artifacts.
What confuses me is, I have experimented with a lot of codecs–even uncompressed AVI. There is no change in the video resolution–source is 720×480, as is output. I am keeping all the pixel aspect ratios the same as the source footage.
What is creating this distortion? I have no scaling of the video whatsoever in the sequence…
Is there some compression box I’m not seeing here?

Are you viewing the DV file you output in Windows Media Player? I’ve noticed, on some computers, that DV videos played in WMP appear pixelated.

Yes, I’m looking at the output in WMP and VLC… Each appears very poor.
It doesn’t even matter which codec I use, even when I output as an uncompressed AVI, it looks horrible. Totally compressed and distorted, and blurred.
I still think the project properties are correct. But I haven’t applied all the hotfixes from Adobe to address AVI issues… I am wondering if these hotfixes could fix the issue. I will attempt to install these when I am back home.
In the meantime, if anyone has any other ideas, I’m open to all suggestions!

Did you find a solution to this? I’m having the exact same problem. I have found several other posts from people with similar issues, but there seems to be very little in the way of solutions.
