  • Premiere Pro CS4 – Offline media (Link media not working)

Posted by Stuart Humphreys on September 4, 2011 at 9:49 am

Please please help (as you can tell I am pretty desperate). I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and when I open one of my projects, all the media is “Offline.”

I have tried right clicking and linking the media but it just comes up with an error box saying that the file is “unsupported format or damaged file”. I know the file is not damaged as I am able to play it fine on my computer.

I know the pathway to link the media (as I am able to find the file on my hard drive – same file and filename etc). I have tried dragging the file from my hard drive into PP but it still comes up with the same message. I really don’t know what else to do and I feel I have been going round in circles.

I couldn’t tell you how this started as I have been doing this for ages and have forgotten. Another point is I have tried uninstalling and re-installing PP but this still hasn’t helped. I will be forever grateful for anyone that can help me. Kind regards, Stuart

Are you able to start a new project and import the file successfully? Or is the file truly an unsupported format? What format is it?

    Hi Chris
Thanks for your message. I actually managed to fix the issue….and it all it took after a day and a half was a couple of updates and “hot fixes”
The format however is Mpeg and I was able to import into a new project but it still had the same problem at the time.
    Thanks again

Try reinstalling the software. Perhaps there is a corruption. Reinstall usually does the trick 😉
