We have just got 2 of the New 5DMK4’s

And have chopy playback on Premiere, as you know the Mk4 is recording 4k in Motion Jpeg 🙁
has any body expereince chopy playback with the Mk4 files, or any 4k Motion Jpeg footage ?
is there a MJPEG plug in that may help ??

OR should i bite the bullet and just transcode all the footage to Proress 422? on inport,

    specs
    Mac Pro Dustbin
    64gb ram
    Quad Core
    Latest CC
24tb Thunderbolt 2 storage for media, Raid 0

    thanks

ProRes is MotionJPEG, so that’s not really going to help. You didn’t say what format you recorded in (4K 23p? 30p? 60p?) We don’t know what GPU your “Mac Pro Dustbin” has (D300? D500? D700?) and are you sure you are RAID 0? You have a 4 drive striped array? That seems dangerous.

4k, 25fps i think its the Dual AMD FirePro D300

the storage is raid 0 we have a main and backup drive, using the LaCie 24TB 8big Thunderbolt 2 Rack Series which give us about 1330 MB/s Data Transfer Speeds a main and a clone just update the clone at the end of each edit day
not ideal but with our workload works ok,

until recently we shot on the Mk3 1080/25fps and it ran perfect,

if not Proress, what would be a good codec to transcode to ? any advice more than welcome 🙂

    THanks

[Mark Bowes] “until recently we shot on the Mk3 1080/25fps and it ran perfect, “

Well, of course. It’s 1080, not 4K. That’s not at all an apt comparison.

Decoding 4K will take a lot of power, and you opted for the lowest end GPU.

You should make proxies and edit with an offline/online workflow.
