  • Premiere Pro CC External Monitor Problem

Posted by Simon Roughan on June 20, 2013 at 2:24 pm

    Hi All,
have upgraded everything to CC, and so far so good EXCEPT…
I can’t get the external monitor working. I have an BM Intensity Pro card. I have downloaded and installed all the new BM drivers. I see the card in the “Playback” preferences. I make the tick in the Blackmagic box, but no picture on the monitor. Just in case you think I havn’t plugged it in, or some such thing, I have a picture in the monitor with AfterEffects. Just no RAM preview, but thats another story.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

    Simon

If you open CS6 do you see your preview monitor?

I had the same problem initially. Un-check the Blackmagic card, reboot the computer, start PPro, and then check it again.

This was driving me nuts yesterday trying to figure it out.

Is the Black Magic Intensity Pro card working with Premier CC and AE CC still?
Just wondering before I bought it as I am reading lots of horror stories, and B and H won’t give a refund on this item should I buy it.
I’m running Win 7 Pro in a stable, video only, fast PC.
    Thanks.

I’m pretty sure it still does. I’m currently using the Ultrastudio USB 3.0, Shuttle USB 3.0, and Mini-Recorder Thunderbolt with CC, and they all work fine.

Note, don’t use the newest drivers from Blackmagic, they’re screwed up. Most use version 9.5.

    Thanks, Mike.

What are the key differences in your interface and the Intensity? I have a Win 7 machine.

Prices seem comparable, but I’m was just rushing to read about it and couldn’t finish.

    Thanks again.

The Intensity Pro and the Intensity Shuttle are basically the same, they both accept analog and HDMI inputs, though one is an internal card, and one is external (via USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt).

Since I travel quite a bit, I have to edit on a laptop, hence the external version.

EDIT: btw, I’m running Win 7 also.

    Thanks.

I keep reading bad reviews of the Shuttle, saying that if you don’t have the older USB 3 Chipset, see below. I was wondering how old is your motherboard?

I’ve personally had good luck with several laptops from Asus (the G53, G74, and G55). My G55 also has a Thunderbolt port, which works fine also with the Mini-Recorder.

We also have a Dell Optiplex tower that we put an internal USB 3.0 card in, and it works fine also.

The key is how the USB 3.0 chipset is implemented by the manufacturer. I’ve gotten lucky that Asus does it correctly.

    Thanks.
I’ve got an Asus Maixumus 1V Extreme-Z, so I guess I should give it a try!

If you plan on going with a USB 3.0 version of the Shuttle, you should be fine.

Also, make sure to use the newest USB 3.0 drivers directly from Intel, not from Asus.
