I was wondering what would be the best sequence setting for editing a slideshow of JPEG images around 4000 x 2000 pixels in premiere pro? Is there a way I can edit the images without having to render them?

I would make a sequence that is the same as the output size.
Render as in red line turning to green or export?
The images are jpeg so you will have a red line.
Don’t use the preview files, most of the time you will end up with the wrong codec.———————————————–

render as in red line turning green. Which codec do you think is the best to use for jpegs? I guess that should have been my original question. I am using final cut right now instead, but I am still curious about which codec would work best in premiere. Are the preview files the saved rendered clips?
