    Hello Premiere world!!!

I’ve been using Premiere for years BUT the newer versions don’t seem to have features like Encore, which I’d use for BluRay creation. I still have CS5 but would love to utilize all the fresh features. I have an upcoming project that I’ve put on BluRay in the past and would like to do this recent project on BluRay too! What would you pros recommend I do?

Hi! Yes times have changed but there are some work arounds for technology that’s evolved. I’ve recently built a system to digitize and uprez vhs tapes into 1080HD ProRes. There are some questions first to help determine the best solution. First is who is burning the physical Blu-ray discs and with what? Do you yourself only have CS5 and therefor 2010 computer hardware or do you also have access to newer Adobe software and hardware? Is the expected output for the upcoming project only Blu-ray or are they open to other options? I’ll keep watch for your reply.

There are cheap apps out there for that.

    Google “blu-ray burner software”.

Just need to export a legal Blu-Ray folder.

Matt, I’d be interested in finding out the specs and what your workflow is for the machine you use to uprez VHS tapes. I’d like to do the same for old tapes we have…mainly 3/4″ tapes. Thanks.

Hello Matt! Thx for the quick response!

I have an older HP machine and an external bluray writer. It works great with my CS5.5 projects…I was just hoping to use the newest Premiere Cloud software, which I annually subscribe to. But there doesn’t seem to be any bluray Adobe authoring software like Encore with the new stuff.

I’d like to stick with bluray since I’ll be showing this project at our 35yr class reunion at my hometown movie theater. I was back in Indiana last month to test the look out. I had a prev bluray project on bluray which looked amazing on the big screen. I TRIED, but failed, getting a test clip of DCP to work. And a MP4 didn’t seem to work. I’m so happy with the look of the bluray thought id just stick with it!

If the intent is to create a GUI for BD then yea you need Encore or some form.
But if its just for playback, you just need to burn the right BD folder in a approved disc.

I have done a few DCPs for film events and found them to be less problematic then obtaining a BD player and hooking it up to to projector at a local theatre.

Most theatres here done support that option.

    Hey Billy,

You’ve already got plenty of good advice here.

I would add that you should consider using Topaz Video AI to “upconvert” your old footage.

With regard to burning your video onto DVD or BluRay you might want to look at WinX DVD.

I use it to back up data and programs to, so I haven’t done enything that requires menu making and programming. This also caomes with upscaling and sharpening software.

    Hope this helps.
