  Premiere cs3 crashes when i try to apply transitions

  Hi guys. As much as I learn, more surprises keep coming to my editing life. I’m editing a 40min dvcprohd 720p video and until yesterday everything was fine but now i can’t drag and drop any transition in my timeline without premiere crashing with the famous message” serious error ocurred bla bla bla we will try to save your project. And it doesn’t even save! Just freezes so the only alternative is ctrl alt del.
  I’m working on a vista 64 with 2 xeon quad 3ghz, 8gb of ram and a nvidia quadro card. Drive C for OS and apps,D for backups and an external E-sata 1tb for work data, that’s where the data i’m working on is stored.
  I don’t know what to do.
