I have been dealing with this same issue for more than 2 days now.
It popped up out of nowhere on Friday. ALMOST any project gave me the same issue.

I tried everything I could think of.
    repaired permissions
ran disk warrior on all drives
    trashed prefs
    cleaned cache files system wide
    scanned for corrupt clips
    tried to repair xml
    uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere Pro
    deleted Premiere workspaces
    punched myself in the face
    etc.

Some of the above seemed to help for a little while and then would go back to it’s previous state of frustration. I would get about 4-5 program closes (I was closing frequently to troubleshoot) before I would get Premiere either refusing to quit or unexpectedly quitting on close. Throw in a serious error from time to add to the fun and you get the idea.

I Finally uninstalled CS6 and reinstalled the entire suite today.
Seems to have worked so far. Fingers crossed.
You might want to give it a try.

This happened to me running PPro CS5 in MPE GPU acceleration mode with an unlocked GTX460 (non Adobe certificated) graphics card. Updating to CS6 and nvidia drivers solved the problem.

I also have had similar things occur, with the Force Quits, etc. I haven’t been able to solve the issue totally. I have had renders and file exports fail constantly, both of which would invoke this crashing behavior.
I ended up turning off Mercury Playback Engine so that it is software-only, delete the preview files, and that seemed to allow me to render/export. The strange thing was that I had to do this after I had already updated to the latest CS6 release, OSX Lion 10.7.5, AJA and nVidia drivers. The new update worked great until I started rendering several times on various edits, and the problems came back. To me it would seem to be an issue with the Preview files Premiere generates that causes the issues. Deleting those maybe is the key? Very hard to pin it down.

    Yeah. Interesting.

I got my media cache to stop regenerating everytime I opened. Awesome to all those who helped!!! Big ups.
But now I set to render, say time lapses I have resized to 1080. Leave it running over night.
    Here’s what happens…

    A. My computer tells me my OS drive is chocka and I need to force quit a number of applications. I do so but then have to shut down to be able to reopen PP CS6.

    B. I reopen and my renders are gone!

Mmm. I need to get to the bottom of this one, cause i have a lot of renders to do.

    Yours in need.

For us Premiere Pro is VERY slow to quit. Can take 4 minutes. The app disappears, but the menu stays on the top of our Mac screens for up to 4 minutes until it finally disappears.
