I have two short films that I have edited with Premier Pro CS3. I have been looking for a post production sound editor to polish the sound tracks, but everyone that has replied to my request is Mac based. I can not render the films in order to import them into Final Cut because the six sound tracks would be combined into one. Is there a way to edit my sound tracks with a non Premier Pro program or a Mac based program and have it remain Premier Pro compatible so that I could bring it back into my timeline.
I know that this project could be done with Soundbooth, but the Mac people would not be able to use it.
I am not “sound” savvy so I probably shouldn’t even say this, but I have heard a lot about Pro Tools. If I find someone with that program, would that solve my problem?
I look forward to your enlightenment.
    Thank you,
    Jim Hawk

    Hi Jim,

I think you could export the 6 audio tracks as indiviudal files – Just mute all but one track at a time and export. Normally I would say use “.wav” files, but I don’t think they work with Mac, but just use a Mac-compatible format then, ask the sound editor what they need.

WAVS will be alright on the Mac.

But wouldn’t an AAF pr OMF export be idea for this?

Thanks for getting back to me, Jeff.
It would be highly desireable to not only have the tracks separate, but also to have the clips stay separate. If the clips are merged on the track then it is at the discretion of the sound editor to figure out where one clip starts and ends which could be an issue with L and J cuts.

Thanks for getting back to me Alex.
I have done some more research since posting my challenge. It now appears that I definitely want to align myself with a Pro Tools sound editor. That being the case, your suggestion of exporting as either OMF or AAF is right on the mark. I went to PP-CS3 export/movie (I am assuming that “media encoder” is not a good choice because of compression) and could not find any selections that gave me the choice of OMF or AAF. Can you tell me how to get to one of these selections?
