  • Premier pro CC stutters, skips on playback with windows 10

Posted by Art White on October 24, 2015 at 4:12 am

I use premier CC for years with no problems now my only problem is the playback monitor. When I play or scrub it skips and stutters. Everything else on CC runs fine. When I render the clip out its fine no stutter, no problems. My video card is up to date. Anybody have any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Art

System specs? Footage info? Drive setup? Sequence settings?

    Oops.
Sorry. been on a lot of forums trying to find the answer, thought my system specs were in my signature:

    Gigabyte GA EX58-UD5
    i7CPU 920@2.67Ghz 2.66 Ghz
    Gskill Ripjaw f3-8500CL7S-4gbrl DDR3-1066 PC-8500 4gbx1 spd cl7-7-7-1 8 1.5v
    24 gig ram 6×4
    GTX 680
    Windows 10 64

The thing is, I have been running this system for a long time and it has treated me well. The only problem is Premiere and I want to think it started after I upgraded to Windows 10 but hard to tell because CC pushes out so many updates.

I’m not opposed to rolling back to Premiere 2005 if that works and I knew how. It’s impossible to edit with the timeline jumping around like that.

I have uninstalled and re installed several times, updated my driver and that’s about it.

    Thanks

You still didn’t mention anything about what is the footage you’re trying to edit.

I havent had any success with any footage on the line. 1080, 24p Go pro, P2 cards. nothing on the playback. I just updated my audio driver and now it appears playback is faster with long audio pauses now. I got a warning of a failing HD I’m replacing as we speak hoping this will help. Anything!

Well you also didn’t mention anything about your media setup. If you have a RAID and a drive breaks up it’ll definitely have a negative effect on the performance.

No RAID just a 300 gig raptor for my C drive ops system. 5 other WD 2T Blacks for storage. I just replaced my E drive with a 1t WD Blue. Playback is better but now it plays fast like I’ve heard about with others with a playback problem. Everything else is fine.

I fixed this problem by reverting back to premiere 2014. I spent an hour on the phone with Adobe Tech who took over my computer and installed it. Only way I could get it to work but it works like a charm.

    Recently I had a playback stutter. However I use Win7 and CS6.
The solution was NOT to have the graphics driver updated.
It is possible, in your case, that you need to select a different driver for your graphics card for it to work properly with CC and Win10 (??)
My graphics card is a Nvidia PNY Quadro 4000 video card.

In my case, the new drivers were probably for CC, but did not work right with CS6.
I found out that there are many families of drivers as well as versions, optimized to work with specific applications.

This info may not help you, but it could be an issue for some others.
