    Hi

I am experiencing a problem since moving over to premier pro cc from FCP. The problem I’m having is that when i have finished my edit and export my sequence and watch the film back I am seeing glitches.

I especially see these glitches when there is a transition like cross dissolve or when there is a few layers of photos being key framed to move.

I have asked a few people and they work on avid and said that i need to do a video and audio mix down but i don’t know what that is and can’t seem to find anything in premier.

I also use plug ins such as red giant colour suite and film convert and wonder that when all these effects are applied and when it exports it struggles to export it smoothly.

    These are my export settings:

    Quicktime
    h.264
    1920 x 1080
    25 frame rate
    field order upper first
    aspect square pixels (1.0)
    key frame every 75 frames
limit data rate to 40,000 kbps
    (use maximum render quality ticked)

I have searched the web for a while and can’t seem to find a solution or answer. Please can any one suggest a solid workflow in ensuring glitch free exports so in future i am not forever wasting time waiting for long exports to only find out that there is a glitch and i have to start over again.

Many thanks and i look forward to any help.

    Mike

    Hi Michael,

Some questions that will help us to help you –

What is the source footage format?
    Editing Sequence used?
What is the intended destination/purpose for the export clip?

Could you maybe share a link to a sample video clip so we can see the “glitch” that you’re getting?

    Thank you

Tough to act upon “glitches” as a problem. it’s a little broad.

Perhaps you could show a short segment where the problem occurs and describe any recurring common traits of footage at the points where some of this happens…

Right out of the blocks I’ll note that plugin effects that haven’t been updated between CS6 (or earlier) and CC can be problematic in certain circumstances.

    Hi

The source footage is MXF files from a canon c300

I set the sequence to match the canon c300 files

I was exporting these clips for an award ceremony and they were being played through a projector onto a huge screen so wanted top quality.

I will have a look at a way to share a clip and post a link later.

Is it just usual to finish your edit and just export straight form sequence, is there meant to be a certain work flow, especially if you are working with images and graphics laid onto multiple layers/channels?

This only seems to happen when the time line is looking quite complex and has lots of assets and also plug ins and grades.

When i worked on FCP i would convert all my footage to prores before importing and this worked nicely for me.

    Cheers for looking into this.

I will post a link when i have a clip online. Also do you think its worth contacting red giant and film convert and asking them if this problem is due to me being on CC and the plugins haven’t been updated yet?

Also thanks for finding time to help.

Agreeing with Tim, likely a plug-in issue. Do you get any glitches on exports when those plug-ins are not used? There is no need for an intermediate render – normally, you’d complete the edits in Premiere and then File > Export out to your deliverables.

I do have a question – are you shooting 1080i? Because I see that the output is interlaced. How is the video being played out to the projector? If from a computer, you probably want to stick with Progressive video then.

    Thanks

Software companies all have CC versions out by now.

…what I’m saying is that some users haven’t installed (purchased) the updated plugins yet (they just drag the CS6 or earlier version into the CC plugins folders) and many times the CS6 versions will work…sometimes fine…sometimes 99% of the time with a few odd quirks…it all depends.

No i have only just installed the plug ins from their websites, so they should be up to date.

Field Order in export settings should be Progressive for a 1080p source

A minor point to check – make sure Use Previews is not checked when exporting.

Other than that – I agree with the others in regards to plug-ins. I’d turn off a section of plug-ins and try the export again to see if the issues go away.

I wouldn’t bother with the suggestions from your Avid friends. You shouldn’t have to do any kind of video and audio mix down before exporting.

    Sincerely,

    Don Hertz
