Premier Pro 2.0 Multi-Cam Audio 1 Workaround
Has anyone figured out a workaround for the Multi-cam feature in Premier Pro 2.0 only allowing the use of either Audio 1 or Audio Follows?
I have a 2 camera wedding shoot where I broke out the main cams audio channels (the cam with the wireless and shotgun) into 2 mono tracks, then allowed the back of church cam to run with onboard audio only on track 3.
This is a fairly complex audio situation where there is a need for many rubberbands of the levels up and down and switching between cams for the optimal audio. Since Pro 2.0 with Multicam locks you into Audio 1, has anyone figured out a workaround or can someone suggest a possible solution which would allow for my rather complex audio needs. BTW, the audio follows is not an option.

The simple answer is to not edit your audio into the multicam sequence. Copy/paste the audio tracks into the main sequence (or a nested sequence, it’s up to you) and do your edits separately. Since it sounds like what you want are audio edits that don’t match the video edits, I don’t know of any intelligent way for the multicam sequence to follow what you want.

You pretty much summed it up, in the 1.5 workflow, I would do all the video cuts then go back in and play with the audio levels in the individual tracks to get things right. Now that I stepped away from the project for the day and read your message, I have a clearer picture of what to do. I’ll just take the video and cut to my hearts content, then come back in to the sequence with the audio files from the original sources quick sync them and do what I need to do and eventually de-link the audio from the multi-cam sequence and what will be left will be the audio that I “tweaked”. Sounds solid to me now, I’ll see tonight when I get home from work and get to play…

OK SUCCESS! – New workaround and not what I expected for a new version, but I guess that if I were to integrate this into Audition, the workflow would likely be a little easier.
So with that said, I basically broke out my audio (something I typically do anyway) into 2 mono mixes of Shotgun and Wireless and also broke out the back of church cams audio, which in this case was onboard stereo, dropped them onto the multi-cam sequence, locked them and started editing.
The only drawback is that during multicam, audio tracks 2,3 and 4 do not come up in the multi-cam session window, so my wireless groom mic is the only one that I can use to monitor with. There is a 5 minute chunnk at the start of the sequence that is that of the soloist which is covered by the stereo back of church mic and since I was in the back with the groom, I am hearing his conversation watching her sing, not very true to what I’m trying to do, BUT none the less, it’s a start.
Maybe if enough people give Adobe engineering some feedback, they will do something in the next version.
