  • Preferences have changed in my old projects?

I have been using Premier Pro 1.5 for about 7 months. When I start a new project I click on the New Project Button which opens the New Project window. I select a name for the project and then select a file destination for the project. The destination is always a new folder created for exclusively for that project. I then set up sub folders in this new “Project Folder” for Video, Audio, Titles etc. Under “Scratch Disc Preferences” I direct everything to its respective folder inside the main project folder. Everything is neat and easy to find.

Problem: I just opened an old project from four months ago and found that my preference settings have changed to match my latest project. I checked other old projects and found they had all changed to match my latest project. I changed one back to its original destination and found that ALL my projects mirrored the change. Each Project is in a seperate folder, set up as seperate projects. What is happening that allows the preference settings to change in EVERY old project?? I have added footage to some over time without realizing the destinations had changed to match the latest project and now I’ll have a nightmare trying to find where it went.

Can anyone enlighten me on whats going on?

Preferences are not saved with your project. Preferences are global settings that stay the way they are until you change them, regardless of which project you have open. Settings that are specific to a project can be found in the Project Settings dialog.

So yes, this is normal. You should try using the “same as project” option for the scratch disks, which will eliminate the need for you to keep changing the preferences each time you start a new project.
