I have been having problems with making my new VISTA 64 bit laptop 500GB hard drive 4GB RAM duo core processor 2.53GHZ 8770 communicate with the new Vegas Movie Studio 9.0b. It crashes after 150 video clips imported. Each clip is about 15-20 seconds long and is STANDARD DEFINITION.

Someone suggested breaking my project up into pieces and rendering then pasting together? The video will be about 40 minutes long. I have never PRE RENDERED and not sure how to save it, where to save it, and how to paste it together? Any thoughts?

Also, this person who responded before DID not think it would be a benefit to store my video clips on a separate G RAID device. So I assume it wouldn’t be helpful at all to use a separate hard drive for my video clips?

    With My Regards!

I pre-render all the time. There are a couple of ways to do it, but the most manual and straight forward is to render out chunks to QuickTime MOV files using a lossless codec. It’ll be frame-accurate and PNG is a slow favorite with good size compression, but I often find ANI to be nearly as small – for relative meanings of small, since the files are going to be humongous. I often do this since multiple tracks, dozens of effects and composites + resizing to 1280×720 + changing the frame rate to 24p + 2-pass VBR MP4 can sometimes = trouble. Pre-rendering first and then encoding seems to avoid trouble.
