  • PPro CS5.5 and Dynamic Link to AE Comp with Alpha – Different now?

Posted by David Dobson on August 7, 2011 at 9:42 pm

In PPro CS 5 (and AE CS5) a dynamically linked AE Comp with Alpha (i.e. a lower third) would display in PPro as you would expect, graphic over the underlying video. But in PPro CS5.5 (and AE5.5) the imported dynamic link appears as the graphic over white! In order to get the alpha channel to work I have to apply the Set Matte effect to the dynamically linked AE Comp in PPro.

Is that how it’s going to be from now on? Or is this maybe just the result of upgrading the PPro Project from 5 to 5.5?

Anyone else noticed this? Or is it just me.

Funny you posted on this, I just ran into it a minute ago! And it’s a bug as far as I can tell. My situation and how I solved it.

    In Premiere we have:

    Top layer, overlayed graphic.

Middle layer, video footage scaled down.

Bottom layer, background and surrounding interactive frame.

Everything appeared white, until I deleted a hidden video layer in After Effect we were using for placement.

My advice would be to delete any hidden layer in that composition, especially video.

I think that you may be hitting this bug:

We’re working on getting a fix out as soon as possible.

    That is good news! Thanks.

My background color was not black. I’ll try changing it to black and taking off the set matte effect to check.

No hidden layers, but the back ground color was not black.

Todd is always at NAB. You can probably buy him a drink at the Media Motion Ball! https://www.mediamotionball.com/
