PPro CS4 has gotten very slow
Is it me, or the latest update for PPro CS4 sucks? I had not used it in a while, and today I had to load an old project and render it to DVD, and for a 10 minute sequence with AVCHD footage it’s taking over 3 hours to render to 720×480, 6.5 average, 2 pass VBR. It just doesn’t make any sense. Also, I remember that playing AVCHD footage in PPro CS4 both in the source monitor and timeline was fluid, but now it’s playing at about 5 fps. I don’t have this problem in either Vegas Pro or Edius Neo Booster, so it can’t be my system. Is anybody having this same problem? I have CS4 Production Premium with all the latest updates, in the case of PPro it is 4.2.1

Also, there’s this other weird thing happening now. The preview on the second monitor, in my case the TV set, when the footage is played from the source monitor, it shows in the TV set at the correct aspect ratio, but when I play it from the timeline, it shows as a square on the left side. I checked everything in the project settings, sequence settings, and playback settings, and everything is set up to 1920×1080, but also I tried every choice in the “Aspect Ratio Conversion” drop down list in the Playback settings window, and it still shows the square.

Well, I just remember that last year when I bought the CS4 Production Premium set, I was gladly surprised that it played AVCHD footage at full frame rate because I was being used to edit with Vegas Pro, where AVCHD playback is hit and miss. Back then my computer was the same, a 2.66 GHZ Intel Q6700 and 8 GB of RAM, the only difference was that then I had Windows 7 RC and now I have Windows 7 retail with all the latest updates (both 64 bit), and of course I did a clean reinstall from the RC to the retail.
I still use Vegas because I prefer the interface, but after not editing with Premiere for a while, now it seems very sluggish with the same footage.
