PPRO CS3 audio/video out-of-sync
I’ve spent a good deal of time searching the COW PPRO CS3 forum looking for an answer to my ‘sync’ & ‘color correction’ problems, but can’t seem to find a dinfitive one, for my particular situation. Perhaps someone has experienced these problems:
Presently, I’m using Pentium 4 3.0, with hyperthreading, 4 gigs of ram on an Asus 4P4800 Deluxe board (2004 build.) I have another computer on the way, featuring a new dual core quad CPU, which I HOPE will solve SOME of my problems. And, the problems are…I’m editing a 2 hour program with 9 camera angles, trying to use the Multi-cam feature in PPRO. I nest, then re-nest.
But, I’m having a problem on TWO fronts…first and foremost, the AUDIO SYNC is off on the video, sometimes by as much as 20 frames, although most of the time it’s 8-12. This sync problem has been happening on ‘shorter’ projects as well. I have to MANUALLY adjust each track to find synchronization. Then I put ‘markers’ on the tracks to sync up for Multi-cam editing. This has worked okay, but now I seem to be progressively losing sync later in the hour long tapes. I use the ‘razor’ to slice-up the timeline and adjust sync at various points (a major PAIN.) Does anyone have an answer to this problem? Is there an easier way to find sync? And, WHY is it out-of-sync in the first place? I capture using firewire on all the tapes. That’s been bothersome as well. For some reason PPRO is having trouble recognizing the recorder. I do a lot of disconnecting, restarting the computer etc. to make the program finally recognize the camera.
The second, related problem involves trying to correct the COLOR of the 9 cameras, which range from a Betacam to XL-1’s to a Canon A-1 to a Canon HV30. The biggest problem is trying to match the MAIN camera (the A-1) to the rest. I’ve tried everything possible, with mediocre results. And…WHERE in the Multicam process does one do the actual color correction? None of the Tutorials address this. I’ve been trying to do all the adjusting BEFORE I begin editing with Multi-cam. I color correct, add the Ltr Box effect and re-sync the audio. Unfortunately, this takes a TREMENDOUS amount of TIME. I’ve been averaging 8 hours of rendering time for each 1 hour tape! I’m growing old on this project. Again, I have another computer on the way, so maybe this will help a little. However, ANY tips are welcome…and, THANKS!
