  • PP crashes – Message says “this project requires third party components” Help?

Posted by Jason Perryman on October 2, 2021 at 2:21 pm

It seems I need to find a correct plugin for the Premiere program to play .DV files now but I don’t know what plug in, or where to find it. Can anyone help?

As my Project crashes within 1-2 minutes of starting it up, but with this message coming up beforehand when I go to start it…

“The preset used by one or more sequences in this project requires third party components that could not be located. These sequences will be modified to use a custom sequence setting instead. To continue editing using the original preset, quit the application without saving the project, reinstall any third-party components that are required to open the project.”

Looking at my timeline before the crash I see that the clips that are .DV are brown and I think need relinking? (Though there is no window beforehand telling me that these files are offline)

I cannot import .DV clips into a new project that I make. So PP can no longer accept/play them for some reason. However my Mac can play .DV files via Quicktime.

I have no idea what 3rd party plugin is needed to play .DV files in PP, does anyone know what they are or where to get them?

I use Adobe PP 2018. (Was told that going back to the 2017 version would do the trick but don’t know how to do that, or if I still can)

A few months ago I did an upgrade on my 2016 Macbook Pro from El Capitan to Big Sur. I am not sure what that did to things, as I don’t believe I did a PP update as well.

I didn’t moved any project files on my external hard drive to a new location either.

If anyone can help I would be so grateful as this is causing me unnecessary time and stress and the Adobe Chat help didn’t solve this for me either.
