  • Powerbook G4 doesn’t read 16Gb. cards

    Hi all:

I just received the 16Gb. P2 card, and our G4 Powerbook doesn’t seem to be able to read it. (Yes, the card is formatted; we upgraded one of the cameras and it reads and records perfectly from the card). I’ve been told by the dealer that we have to install some drivers, but I can’t find them anywhere: the closest I’ve come is this page:

    https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/p2indexe.html

But the “Mac/16Gb. P2 Card” section only says “Availability”. “Availability”? What’s that supposed to mean?

    Go to:

    https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/

then click on Go to download page.

Uh? The link you posted goes to the same page than mine, and the “Go to download” link goes to the drivers for the HVX-200 cameras. I’m talking about drivers for OS X, for a Powerbook to recognize the 16Gb. card and transfer the data to it.

I know, you need to spend a bit of time navigating their site. Try this:

    https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/pcdriver_li_e.htm

Thanks. I did find it a bit after I posted. It’s the same link than the one for the Windows drivers in the “Driver software” table… except that the “Mac” column isn’t linked. The only mention that the Mac drivers are there too is below, in the part where it says “Driver Software for Windows PC and Mac” (and then says “This driver software is required for PC to recognize the P2 Card” (no word about Macs), and *then* says “Please prepare:1.PC or Mac”…)

Anyway, I installed the drivers (which are version 1.03) in the Powerbook (which had the v1.01 drivers), and it worked. My only nagging doubt is that the instruction sheet by Panasonic says that the drivers need OS X 10.4.8, but the Powerbook still has 10.4.5; neverthless, everything seemed to work. Should I upgrade to 10.4.8 anyway?

[PaulJBis] “Should I upgrade to 10.4.8 anyway?”

Any reason you wouldn’t upgrade to 10.4.9?

I have had 10.4.8 running on several computers for quite a long time, and it hasn’t given problems. I only have 10.4.9 running on one computer, and although it seems to be working fine, it’s been at it only for a few weeks. Better the devil you know, etc. (Did I mention that we have a very important shooting out of town next week? 🙂 ).
